Core aeration is done with a lawn aerator that makes tiny holes in your yard. These holes serve an important purpose—to allow more light, air, and water to pass through your soil and grass so that your lawn can grow stronger. The aeration process leaves behind tiny plugs of grass that are left on top of your lawn to decompose back into the soil and help with fertilizing it.
